The Wedding of the Wolf
The story of "The Wedding of the Wolf" reflects the idea that no matter how much we try to avoid certain responsibilities or life changes, fate has a way of catching up with us. It reminds us that sometimes, what we fear or resist can lead to unexpected joy and community celebration.
‘The Wedding of the Wolf’
Once upon a time, a wolf had reached the age of marriage, but he always avoided the subject due to his fear of liability and his love of leisure and luxury. When pressed for the reason why, he explained, what he believed was an impossible condition for marriage, as follows: “I will get married on a day when it rains, the sun is bright, the sky is blue, and the Thislit of Ojenna appears [ a Berber word referring to ‘the bride of the sky’; meaning the rainbow]”.
However, the wolf was disappointed when dark clouds appeared on the horizon, and it began to rain while the sun was shining and the ‘bride of the sky’ emerged. The wolf was, then, convinced that there was no escape from marriage. His clan organized for him the most beautiful wedding party ever; attended by all the forest’s animals and even humans. The ancestors memorized this day by calling it ‘the Wedding of the Wolf’.
